About the Fund
Jay Williams was driven by a deep belief that education could change lives. With a passion for equity and a gift for connecting with others, he empowered students to succeed—often in the face of daunting circumstances and systemic barriers that limited their opportunities.
As a teacher, consultant, speaker, and author, Jay inspired students and colleagues alike with his energy, authenticity, and conviction that “as we know better, we must become better.” He championed policy changes in education, striving to create environments where every learner could realize their full potential.
Jay’s mission extended beyond the classroom. He sought to engage, empower, and motivate not only students and educators but society as a whole—believing that true impact came from modeling the values of connection, empowerment, and continuous growth.
To honour this remarkable legacy, Jay’s family established the Jay Williams Legacy Fund. Through this fund, your gift will carry forward Jay’s vision—supporting students, teachers, and mentors, and continuing the work he began.
Our Impact
Since its creation, the Jay Williams Legacy Fund has raised over $45,000 to support students and educators—furthering their impact academically and in their community. Each gift extends Jay’s vision by helping students overcome barriers and pursue their goals with confidence, equity, and empowerment.

It is awarded to learners who face systemic barriers yet show determination to pursue their education and make a difference in their communities.

Celebrating Jay’s Legacy: Inaugural Awards & Fundraising Event
The Jay Williams Legacy Fund is honoured to host its inaugural community event, Saturday, December 6th, 2025, where bursary recipients will be recognized for the first time. This special evening will celebrate Jay’s life, highlight students who embody his values of resilience, leadership, and equity, and raise funds to ensure his legacy of empowering learners continues for years to come.
The event will bring together family, friends, educators, and community members to share stories, honour Jay’s legacy, and witness the beginning of what will become an annual tradition of celebrating awardees who embody Jay’s values through their research, leadership, and community impact.

Jay Williams
Jay’s work was rooted in authenticity, resilience, and a deep commitment to community. He challenged traditional notions of what it meant to be a teacher, embodying a hip-hop ethic, defying stereotypes, and always showing up as his full self: a Black man from the Malvern area of Scarborough, an athlete, an intellectual, and a rebel with a purpose.
